Decoupage Flower Cookies

Decoupage: The decoration of the surface of an object with paper cut-outs.

I remember this style back in grade school and high school. We used to make some of the coolest art projects by cut outs from magazines, fabric, construction paper and much more. Ahhh art class was ALWAYS my favorite next to P.E.  Yes I was one of the girls that loved P.E. ;)

Earlier this month I received a beautiful card for my birthday (thanks Mom) and I couldn't help to notice the creative and pretty flowers on the card. I hung on to it with the idea of a cookie design. So that brings me here. I started these cookies inspired by the card and the wonderful designs in each petal....
Pretty huh?
I wish I would of taken step by step photos of the process but honestly as I was doing these cookies I didn't think they would turn out as planned. WRONG! They turned out as I envisioned so lesson learned.....don't go into something thinking negative. I knew that already but dang I couldn't help myself LOL.

I flooded some round cookies with white, airbrushed them with a pinkish purple color then flooded each of the colored sections for each petal. Letting each color/petal dry before flooding the next one to it. After that I painted the designs. See this is where I started becoming skeptical. It was not til after I piped the brown outlines that it really came to life in my eyes. Mixed some gold luster dust with gold air brush color and painted on the stems then adding a touch of glitter here & there. Ahhh sparkly in all the right spots. And here they are....
I'm very happy with these. Actually they are still sitting on my kitchen counter. I am going to cringe when my husband asks if he can eat them later this evening HA!

  3. Hmmm...must find her address so I can sneak in, snatch these off the counter before her hubby eats them all, run to Michael's, get a shadow box, mat & frame them and hang them in my foyer...

  4. These are absolutely amazing!! I can only aspire to such greatness!
With regard to airbrushing the cookies, is there a specific reason that you chose to airbrush them pink as opposed to flooding with pink icing? I am currently debating buying an airbrush and was just wondering what your opinion is on the matter.

;o) Love, love, love your work!!

    1. Thank you Kelly, I airbrushed them pink because....well I didn't want to mix the pink icing and I already had my airbrush out. So maybe the answer is because I was feeling lazy LOL. I LOVE my airbrush. It is a great addition to your decorating tools.

  8. Oh Andrea - these are absolutely breathtaking. I've been staring at them for about the past 10 minutes and am just in awe. I always love EVERYTHING you do but these easily top the list. And I love how you lightly airbrushed the background...it makes them look like velvet. :) If you don't mind I might try to do something like this for my Mom for Mother's Day but would absolutely give you credit for them. Oh, and I'm going to follow your blog now, too! :) Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us!

  12. Wowee - these are AWESOME. I had to read your post to check hey were actually what I thought they were - edible cookies and not just paper decoupage. Well done - very impressive! Vohn

  13. OMG - I decorate cookies so it does take a bit to stump and impress me, but you have totally done that. I would NEVER be able to eat these - and I am a sugar-addict. Please make more of this type, take step by step pics and charge $15 a cookie for them!!!

    1. Thank you so much Beth. I would never do these for under $15 haha. They were pretty time consuming. Luckily I only made five of them :) If I do make them again I will most definitely make a step by step.

  15. I totally understand your feeling of doubt with a design and being skeptical until the very last detail is done. I'm so glad you stuck with it because these are so incredible!! I clicked on your final image to see the larger, blown up version and I couldn't stop staring at all the tiny details. I had to pull myself away so I could write this comment of my idolization. :) I love your cookies and can't wait to see what you have in store next!
